Handwashing recommended, microwave may cause pottery to become hot
Lily, a native of Cavendish, VT, grew up raising goats and chickens with her family and later earned a BS in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont, where she developed a passion for sustainable agriculture and landscape design. Her pottery reflects a playful and colorful view of Vermont life, focusing on simple forms and surface decoration, primarily using wheel-thrown terra cotta—a rich red earthenware clay that is durable and food-safe but not microwave-friendly due to its water-absorbing properties. Inspired by a love of drawing discovered in college art courses, Lily combines her artistic skills with pottery through the traditional majolica technique, where red earthenware is coated in white tin glaze and painted with vibrant stains to create precise, watercolor-like designs. This distinctive approach defines the pieces featured in her shop today.
