Designed by architect Alvar Aalto, the Aalto collection won first prize in the 1936 Karhula-Iittala Glass Design Competition. Inspired by waves ("aalto" in Finnish), the vase is an undisputed symbol of Finnish glass design and among the most famous glass objects in the world. Each Aalto vase is hand-crafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland.
